Rabbi Moshe Isereles ("Rama") of Cracow (1525-1573?) authored the glosses ("hagga'ot") on R. Yosef Caro's the Code of Jewish Law and is regarded as the definitive Halachic authority for Ashkenazic Jews. Links: Rabbi Moshe Isserlis
Shulchan Aruch, alse referred to as the Code of Jewish Law, was authored in Safed, by Rabbi Joseph Karo in 1563 and published in Venice two years later.
