Yehuda Avner served as an advisor and speechwriter to Israeli Prime Ministers Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres, Golda Meir and Levi Eshkol, and as Israel’s Ambassador to Australia and the United Kingdom.
Yitzchak Rabin served as Israel’s ambassador to the United States from 1968 to 1973. In 1972, Ambassador Yehuda Avner accompanied Rabin to pay Israel’s respects to the Rebbe in honor of his 70th birthday.
In 1972, Yehuda Avner was a senior diplomat at the Israeli Embassy in Washington.
An Ambassador Recalls the Rebbe
Israeli diplomat Yehuda Avner speaks at the concluding banquet of the International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch Emissaries in New York, addressing a series of encounters he had with the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory.
Yehuda Avner served on the personal staff of five Israeli Prime Ministers. In 1977, after meeting with President Carter at Camp David, Menachem Begin sent him to report to the Rebbe.
