Hagar: Sarah’s Egyptian maidservant. She became Abraham’s concubine due to Sarah’s childlessness at that point in time. Mother of Abraham’s eldest son, Ishmael. She and Ishmael were banished from Abraham’s household because of Ishmael’s potentially negative influence on Isaac. The midrash also identifies her as Keturah, the wife Abraham took after Sarah’s passing.
