Rabbi Simon Jacobson is the author of the best-selling Toward a Meaningful Life: The Wisdom of the Rebbe (William Morrow, 1995), and the founder and director of the Meaningful Life Center.

Chana Weisberg is the editor of TheJewishWoman.org and host of the Ordinary People, Extraordinary Stories podcast. She lectures internationally on issues relating to women, relationships, meaning, self-esteem and the Jewish soul. She is the author of six books. Her latest book, Shabbat Delights, is a two-volume series on the weekly Torah portion.

Wow! This Rabbi is brilliant and down to earth. Not a common thing.

Just a question. Am I missing something? I thought our mission statement is written in the Torah. And that is keeping Torah and mitzvahs. Here, however, it sounds like each individual person can decide what their mission statement is. What?! The Torah (G-d’s will) tells you what your mission is. Your can’t make up what you’re supposed to be doing in world. Your Creater tells you - in the Torah - what He has in mind for you. Any “calling “ you believe you have is limited to your own subjective opinion, it doesn’t necessarily reflect G-d’s view of the matter. You need to look in the Torah to find out the truth. So who cares what you feel your “calling” is? What if that’s not what G-d wants from you?

Indeed, this man is a psychologist with a capital letter. I think humanity has two central goals, namely, finding a cure for death and finding a cure for artificial intelligence. The picture is so-so. New slavery, new exile to AI, with our actions and connections with it we are digging ourselves a hole deeper and deeper. The time will come and people will start falling for AI, a new religion, you can call it that. A Jew can only have one mission - to be a Jew. My heart feels that we will play these toys to the end. A small group of rebels will remain, which will determine the future. Reply
