The word Korban is like the word Carbon, the element that binds all life on Earth. Carbon is what is left after the Hydrogen, Oxygen and other gaseous and liquid elements in the offered animals are burned up. Gasses and liquids are kabalistic metaphors for Pride and Pleasure. So my theory is that the intent of burning an animal, grain, or spice is to show that we are giving all our Pride and desires to Hashem alone, and recognize to our humility, that at the end of the day, we are all dust and ashes!
