Ten Levels of Freedom

This class serves as a general introduction to this course on freedom and examines the difference between positive and negative freedoms ("the freedom from" as opposed to "the freedom to.")

The first specific freedom we look at is the freedom that is the foundation for all other freedoms: freedom of choice.

The freedom of religion and the freedom of thought are compared to the sefirot of Chochmah (wisdom) and Binah (understanding) respectively, while the "freedom of opinion" is compared to Da'at (knowledge.)

The two main emotional attributes, Chesed (kindness) and Gevurah (severity), are compared to the freedom of association and the right to defend oneself.

Freedom of assembly is compared to the sefirah of Tiferet (beauty); the freedom of education is compared to Netzach (victory); the freedom of movement is compared to the sefirah of Hod; sexual freedom is compared to the sefirah of Yesod (foundation); and freedom of speech is compared to Malchus (kingship.)

The final installment in a 6-part series, this class talks about how to best express all of the different freedoms discussed in the previous classes.
