Another example of mixing linen and wool? The sheep need to eat the crops in the pasture during a famine, not just grain, but flax?
OK, let's eat the sheep and use the wool.

Vayigash When a father greets his son he hasn't seen in a long time the only time he knows if his heart has not changed it's where he sees it his eyes,with his own eyes.
For does not it say the eyes are the window to the soul. Reply

Thank you and a question Please thank Rabbi Gordon for his energetic presentation of Chumash...I have been following him daily since the beginning of this year.

I have a question about one interpretation in today's portion (Vayigash; 6th portion). How is it that Jacob would say 'Shema'...Joseph, yes...but Jacob? Unless he was deaf and saying this as if he wants to hear...how could the explanation be that he would utter "Hear O Israel..."?...I do not understand this rationale. I could also understand it if he was proclaiming the glory of God...meaning the 'Shema' without 'Shema Yisrael...unlss he was saying this to himself but the explanation does not say this...I am perplexed.

also, what book is Rabbi Gordon referring to that he uses for this discourse?

Yaakov Reciting Shma I'm adding to the explanation of rabbi Gordon Why Yaakov Recited Shma while they met after 22 Years, I recently heard a story about Rabbi Shmuel Birenbaum, that after the war when they left Shanghai on a boat, the boat was over capacity and the captain restricted walking about the deck, but when they passed one place from where the great wall of China could be seen, he let everybody come onto the deck because when will they have a chance to see it ever again, but as all the Yeshiva students were on deck Reb Shmuel was no where to be found, finally when they passed the site his friend found him and asked where were you I was looking for you I wanted you to see this awesome thing, Rabbi Shmuel said that he was learning, he said when will I ever get another chance to learn while I have a chance to see something only once in a lifetime.

This could be another reason why Yaakov recited Shma, because when is he going to get another chance to thank Hashem in such a awesome moment. Reply
