Did Yishmael's descendants justify refusing water to the travelers by saying they remembered how he had been cast out when he was ill, and told to return to Egypt, unwelcome to stay along with his half brother? Is it a foreshadowing of Shelomit bat Divri(sp)? Reply

in response to Francis Kinney:

I have not seen commentaries make this connection.
He was cast out not because he was ill but only because he was teasing his half-brother. See verse 8 and the commentaries there.

See also the following lesson on Shlomit bas Divri and the story there.

made laughter and making merry...similar word? Yitzchok's name made laughter for me and mtzchok, make merry look like the same root

I am guessing that there is a huge difference, obviously, between them, and that the difference is leitzonos, a denial of Hashem, of Hagar mocking Sara to diminish Sara's emunah, to have a war with Hashem, giving voice to laughter that shames with the goal of creating doubts. Is that correct? Reply
