In parshat Lech Lecha, G‑d promises Abram that his descendants (that's us!) will be as numerous as the stars in the sky and the dust of the earth.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter/margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • ½ tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • star-shaped cookie cutters

Directions:

  1. Cream butter or margarine with sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Mix.
  2. Add the salt, baking powder and flour—one cup at a time—until dough comes together. (As always when it comes to baking you may need slightly more or less flour, depending on many factors, including the weather.)
  3. Refrigerate the dough for about 1 hour.
  4. Roll the dough and cut into star shapes. Decorate with sprinkles, colored sanding sugar or chocolate chips, if desired.
  5. Bake on 350°F for about 12 minutes.
